We are seeking a Staff Accountant – Traditional Tax to join our Springfield, MO office. This role supports client engagements by preparing accurate and timely federal, state, and local tax returns for high-net-worth business owners across a variety of industries.

The Staff Accountant will assist with tax planning, identify compliance issues, and ensure adherence to tax laws and firm standards. This individual will collaborate closely with Senior Accountants, Managers, and Partners to prepare and deliver returns, participate in client meetings, and contribute to exceptional client service and advisory support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual, corporate, partnership, and trust tax returns in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

  • Assist with tax planning strategies for high-net-worth business owners and related entities

  • Research tax issues and provide recommendations to leadership

  • Review client documentation for accuracy, identify discrepancies, and propose corrections

  • Prepare workpapers and schedules to support the review process

  • Meet with clients to gather information, present findings, and deliver completed returns

  • Maintain accurate client records and ensure compliance with firm policies

  • Monitor filing deadlines and ensure timely submission of returns

  • Respond to client inquiries in a professional and timely manner

  • Collaborate across tax, audit, and accounting teams to support client needs

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May oversee and support Interns

  • Reports to Senior Accountants, Managers, or Partners


Work Environment & Expectations

  • Full-time, salaried exempt position

  • Standard business hours with flexibility

  • Occasional extended hours (40+ per week), especially during peak periods


Location & Travel

  • Springfield, MO (primarily office-based)


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s and CPA eligibility preferred

  • 1–3 years of tax preparation experience, ideally in public accounting

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required

  • Experience with UltraTax, QuickBooks (Desktop & Online), and AdvanceFlow preferred

  • Ability to pass a CJIS background check
