We are seeking a Senior Manager to join our team.

The Senior Manager, Accounting & Advisory provides leadership and strategic oversight across Tax, Audit, and Accounting Services at Abacus!. This role ensures high-quality service delivery, strengthens client relationships, drives growth, and mentors a team of accounting professionals.

The Senior Manager is a client-focused leader responsible for delivering high-quality accounting, tax, and audit services in compliance with all applicable regulations and standards. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and strategic thinking to manage client engagements, oversee complex projects, and develop team members.


Key Responsibilities

Tax & Audit Leadership

  • Oversee preparation and review of tax returns (federal, state, local)

  • Ensure compliance with tax laws and auditing standards

  • Lead audit planning and execution; evaluate internal controls and recommend improvements

  • Coordinate with external auditors and manage audit timelines

Client Management

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships

  • Identify client needs and deliver tailored accounting solutions

  • Advise on financial strategy, risk management, and business planning

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff

  • Manage workloads and conduct performance evaluations

  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment

Strategic Growth & Operations

  • Support business development and firm growth initiatives

  • Identify opportunities to expand client services

  • Drive process improvements and leverage technology to increase efficiency

Quality, Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and high-quality deliverables across engagements

  • Maintain current knowledge of industry regulations and best practices

  • Uphold confidentiality, ethics, and professional standards


Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong technical expertise in tax, audit, and accounting

  • Proven leadership and team development experience

  • Strategic and analytical thinking skills

  • Excellent client relationship and communication skills

  • Strong organization, time management, and problem-solving abilities


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • CPA required; additional certifications (e.g., CMA) preferred

  • 8+ years of progressive public accounting experience

  • Experience managing client engagements and supervising staff

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with QuickBooks, UltraTax, and AdvanceFlow preferred


Supervisory Responsibility

This role oversees accounting managers and professional staff and reports directly to a Partner.


Work Environment & Expectations

  • Full-time, exempt position

  • Standard office hours with flexibility; additional hours may be required during peak periods


Location & Travel

Based in Louisville, KY, with collaboration across all Abacus! locations and remote team members.
