You’ll play a key role in extending and optimizing the telematics platform for Lemonade Car Insurance, helping design and build our data pipelines and services. You’ll help build telematics data from different sensors and sources available for various insurance applications, such as pricing, underwriting, fraud detection and crash analysis.

In this role you’ll:

  • Have end-to-end ownership over our sensor-agnostic Car telematics platform, to ensure code quality, performance, and scalability of the product

  • Design and extend our sensor-agnostic Car telematics pipelines for processing data from different sources (mobile phones, OBD dongles, connected cars)

  • Collaborate with various teams within the organization to ensure optimal use of the data in critical areas such as pricing fairness, fraud prevention, and risk mitigation

  • Integrate with various third-party data and fulfillment vendors to enable a delightful and streamlined experience for our customers

  • Model and expose the telematics data for diverse applications, from real-time insights to data science and analytics

  • Help build our products using microservices written in Typescript (using NestJS) running over Kubernetes

  • Leverage our in-house autonomous tools to manage all development flow, from setting up our development environment to creating git branches and deploying services to production

  • Coach and mentor other developers and help them elevate their skills

What you’ll need:

  • 7+ years experience as a backend engineer

  • BSc in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)

  • Broad knowledge of modern backend frameworks, tools, and architecture

  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS (Lambda, S3, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Kinesis, Infrastructure as Code), building and operating 24/7 distributed systems at scale.

  • Proven expertise in designing, implementing and managing high-throughput, asynchronous, event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka or SQS.

  • Experience with telematic or other streaming data systems is a major advantage, as are past contributions to open source projects

  • Ability to work in an office environment a minimum of 3 days a week

  • Enthusiasm about learning and adapting to the exciting world of AI – a commitment to exploring this field is a fundamental part of our culture
