Full Job Description

About the company

Joist AI is a technology company revolutionizing the way professionals in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry manage marketing and revenue operations. Our AI-powered software streamlines workflows, making it easier for teams to collaborate, innovate, and succeed.

About the Role

At Joist AI, our mission is to transform sales and marketing workflows for the "built world" (AEC industry). To achieve this, we need a Senior Platform Engineer who views infrastructure not as a series of tickets, but as a product that empowers our Engineering team to win.

In this role, you will design and build the internal foundation that powers our complex AI and data pipelines. You will be the architect of our "Golden Path," eliminating friction for our developers and ensuring our multi-model AI architecture—integrating OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, and Amazon Nova—is scalable, secure, and resilient. You will work closely with Guru (DevOps / Developer Experience) to build a world-class platform that embodies our "Everyday Innovator" core value.

What You’ll Do

  • Build the "Golden Path": Design self-service portals and internal tools that abstract the complexity of our AWS-heavy stack (Lambda, Step Functions, RDS, OpenSearch), allowing engineers to deploy and scale services independently.

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Leadership: Lead the evolution of our modular IaC (Terraform) strategy to ensure our environment is consistent, versioned, and easily reproducible.

  • CI/CD & DevEx Evolution: Architect and maintain high-speed delivery pipelines that integrate automated security scanning and testing, significantly reducing the "time-to-deploy" for new AI features.

  • AI/ML Ops Foundations: Support the Proposal Processing Pipeline by optimizing the infrastructure for extraction services, image detection, and heavy PDF processing tasks.

  • System Observability: Own the "observability-as-a-service" layer, utilizing tools like PostHog and Linear to ensure every service is instrumented for real-time alerting and performance monitoring.

  • Governance & Security: Partner with our security leads to implement "Shift Left" security standards via Scrut and maintain robust AWS Cognito identity and access management.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience: 5+ years in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or SRE, ideally within a high-growth AI startup or data-intensive environment.

  • AWS Mastery: Deep, hands-on expertise in the Joist AI stack: AWS Lambda, S3, RDS, OpenSearch, Step Functions, and API Gateway.

  • Developer Mindset: You approach infrastructure with the same rigor as product software, writing clean code in Python or Go and adhering to strict version control policies.

  • Strategic Thinking: A proven ability to identify repetitive developer pain points and solve them permanently through automation.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written skills, essential for maintaining transparency with colleagues and business partners.

Experience We’d Be Particularly Excited About

  • Platform-as-a-Product: A history of gathering requirements from internal developers to drive the adoption of internal tools.

  • LLM Ops: Experience or a deep interest in building platforms specifically for Large Language Model workloads and agentic workflows.

  • AEC Industry Interest: A desire to simplify work for our customers in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction space.

  • Innovation: A passion for "thinking outside the box" to unlock tremendous value for our customers.

What to expect

We conduct a rigorous interview process based on integrity, talent, and drive. We trust our teammates from day one and move quickly to evaluate whether you are fit for the role. The entire interview process typically takes two weeks. Here's what to expect:

  • A 30 minute Zoom meeting to talk about Joist AI, your background, and answer any questions about the role.

  • A 30 minute Zoom meeting with another one of our team members to hear more about your experience and how you'd approach working in the role.

  • A take home project to assess your functional expertise for the role you're applying for.

  • A 60 minute Zoom call to review your project and answer any outstanding questions.
