About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel (Privacy, Trust & Partnerships) to join our team and provide critical legal support as we scale our embedded tax platform. This role is ideal for a strategic legal professional who thrives in fast-paced fintech environments and can navigate complex privacy, data security, and commercial partnership matters with confidence. You'll work directly with our leadership team to build trust with partners, mitigate risk, and enable growth through sound legal counsel. Team members residing within the New York City metropolitan area must maintain a minimum on-site presence of three days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on privacy, data protection, and trust & safety matters, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations including federal regulations state privacy laws, and evolving data protection frameworks

  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements with fintech partners, including partnership agreements, data processing agreements, and API integration contracts

  • Advise on consumer protection and financial services regulatory requirements relevant to tax technology and embedded finance products

  • Partner with product, engineering, and business teams to implement privacy-by-design principles and scalable compliance frameworks

  • Manage and respond to privacy-related inquiries, data subject requests, and regulatory communications

  • Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and legal processes that support rapid partnership growth

Experience

  • 5+ years of legal experience with a focus on privacy, data security, and commercial transactions, with at least 2+ years in fintech, financial services, or technology companies

  • Strong knowledge of US privacy laws and regulations, including state privacy frameworks, CCPA, GLBA, and consumer financial protection laws

  • Proven track record of drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, particularly partnership and data sharing agreements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing

  • Exceptional judgment, business acumen, and ability to provide practical legal guidance in ambiguous situations
