Full Job Description

As a Senior Applied AI Researcher at Tavily, you will lead the exploration and deployment of cutting-edge techniques across agentic workflows, web infrastructure, and information retrieval, while shaping the technical direction of one of the most foundational layers in the agent stack.

This role is ideal for someone who combines strong research intuition with engineering excellence, and is excited to drive both innovation and execution in a fast-moving environment.


What You’ll Do:

  • Push search quality beyond SOTA.

  • Lead research at the frontier of information retrieval and model fine-tuning, shipping systems that power real-world agents.

  • Design and lead development of internal/public benchmarks.

  • Architect and productionize end-to-end ML systems that are reliable, scalable, and impactful.


What We’re Looking For:

  • M.Sc. with 3+ years, or B.Sc. with 5+ years of hands-on experience building real AI/ML systems.

  • Deep expertise in retrieval, embeddings, ranking, vector search, LLMs, model training, and fine-tuning.

  • Strong experimental rigor—know how to measure, not just build.

  • Proven ability to take systems and models from idea to training to high scale production.

  • Comfortable working with modern open-source models and tooling.


Nice to Have:

  • PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • Experience leading projects or mentoring others.

  • Publications in top-tier conferences or impactful open-source work.
