Role Summary

The Sales Development Representative plays a critical role in driving top-of-funnel growth for Astute Payroll across the ANZ staffing and temporary recruitment market. You will be responsible for identifying, engaging, and qualifying prospective customers through both inbound and outbound prospecting. By uncovering client needs, educating prospects on the value of Astute Payroll's solutions, and generating qualified opportunities, you will directly contribute to pipeline development and overall revenue performance.

You will work closely with Mid-Market Account Executives to build and penetrate accounts within the recruitment sector — targeting multiple contacts and decision-makers across various levels of our target organisations. This position requires strong communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth, remote-friendly environment.

Responsibilities

Prospecting & Pipeline Generation

  • Generate new business opportunities through inbound and outbound prospecting, including email, phone, LinkedIn, events, and campaigns targeted at staffing agencies and temporary recruitment firms across ANZ.

  • Identify, research, and qualify prospective clients by understanding their payroll challenges, workforce compliance needs, and readiness to engage with Astute Payroll.

  • Create and execute personalised outreach sequences, including tailored email campaigns and cold-calling, to map and penetrate target accounts within the recruitment sector.

Lead Engagement & Qualification

  • Educate and nurture leads on Astute Payroll's value proposition — including agency payroll processing, contractor management, and compliance — to progress them toward a qualified meeting or next step in the buyer journey.

  • Engage existing customers as needed to identify cross-sell or expansion opportunities across Astute Payroll and the broader Deel product suite.

  • Build relationships with multiple contacts at varying levels within target accounts, understanding the unique dynamics of the staffing and recruitment industry.

Collaboration & Operations

  • Collaborate with Account Executives to ensure smooth and effective handoff of qualified opportunities, with clear context on prospect needs and buying signals.

  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Product teams to continuously refine lead-generation processes, messaging, and workflow improvements tailored to the ANZ recruitment market.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date lead and activity data in CRM (e.g., Salesforce) and sales engagement tools.

  • Achieve or exceed monthly and quarterly targets for qualified meetings, Sales Qualified Opportunities (SQOs), and pipeline contribution.

  • Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and skill development to deepen product and industry knowledge.

Qualifications

Required

  • 1+ years experience in a sales development, business development, or outbound commercial role (experience level may vary depending on team needs).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage prospects across multiple channels (email, phone, social, events).

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and remote-friendly environment.

  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities and outreach activities simultaneously.

  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding activity and pipeline-generation targets.

  • Comfortable working autonomously, taking initiative, and sourcing solutions independently.

  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling outreach messages and campaign sequences.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong growth orientation; adaptable to changes in process, product, or market focus.

Preferred

  • Experience within the staffing, recruitment, or temporary workforce sector.

  • Familiarity with payroll, HR tech, or fintech products and the compliance landscape relevant to ANZ staffing agencies.

  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and sales engagement tools (e.g., Outreach, Salesloft, Apollo).

  • Exposure to structured sales methodologies (e.g., MEDDIC, Challenger, consultative selling).

  • Experience in a high-growth startup or scale-up environment.
