About the role:
As a Relationship Manager ESME (Established Small Medium Enterprise) at Shift, you’ll be the trusted advisor for a portfolio of established SME customers. You’ll build strong, strategic relationships, understand their businesses, industries, and growth plans, and deliver lending solutions that make a real difference. From origination to credit structuring, approvals, onboarding, and ongoing portfolio management – you’ll own the customer journey while keeping credit quality strong and aligned with our risk appetite.
What you’ll do:
Spot opportunities within your portfolio to meet customer needs, grow lending limits, expand product usage, and strengthen relationships
Partner with customers and brokers to discuss lending needs, structures, and solutions tailored to their business goals
Develop a deep understanding of each customer’s industry, market dynamics, and future funding needs
Act as a trusted advisor, building long-term partnerships based on credibility and insight
Structure deals and negotiate security positions to unlock higher limits and greater exposure
Work closely with credit teams to manage and mitigate risk for each application
Handle objections professionally, providing clear explanations and alternative solutions when proposed limits differ
Prepare, present, and progress proposals in line with Shift’s credit strategy and risk appetite
Stay on top of market trends and emerging opportunities to position Shift competitively
Monitor portfolio performance to maintain credit quality and compliance
Collaborate with BDMs, Customer Solutions, Service teams, and other stakeholders to deliver seamless customer outcomes
What you’ll bring:
Experience as a business banker or relationship manager within a bank or non-bank lender, with end-to-end customer accountability, including credit writing
Proven track record in building strategic customer relationships based on trust, industry insight, and tailored solutions
Exposure to equipment finance and working capital solutions, account maintenance, and operational processes
Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
Proactive sales and opportunity identification mindset
Ability to conduct credit assessments using financial and bank statements, and understand corporate group structures and fund flows
Negotiation skills to secure outcomes that benefit both customer and lender
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
Ability to influence decisions and navigate objections
Deep product and market knowledge
Proficiency with CRM and loan origination systems
Tertiary qualification in business, finance, or related field (highly regarded)
