Position Summary
The Data Analyst plays a key role in supporting LGWIS Employee Benefits clients—particularly self-funded and captive accounts—by transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights. This role analyzes employee benefit plan data to evaluate financial performance, identify trends and risks, and support data-driven decision-making.
This position partners closely with Account Management, Sales, and Leadership teams to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and meaningful reporting. The Data Analyst also develops client-focused recommendations and communicates insights effectively to diverse audiences, including leadership, HR, finance teams, and benefit committees.
This is an evolving role that adapts to industry changes, client needs, and reporting requirements. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and able to translate complex data into clear, impactful insights. This position is a hybrid-based role out of Billings or Helena, Montana and you must be able to work in office.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze and interpret data related to self-funded and captive employee benefit plans
Identify trends, risks, cost drivers, and utilization patterns impacting healthcare spend
Ensure data accuracy by identifying and resolving discrepancies or incomplete data
Develop, maintain, and optimize databases and reporting systems
Transform complex data into clear, actionable reports and dashboards
Apply statistical methods to analyze trends and support forecasting and decision-making
Conduct data quality assessments to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency
Collaborate with internal teams to develop client recommendations and strategies
Present findings in a clear and tailored manner to both technical and non-technical audiences
Support client reporting, renewal processes, and strategic initiatives
Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and enhanced data governance
Assist with sales initiatives by supporting reporting and risk analysis efforts
Participate in client meetings, conferences, and presentations (up to 5% travel)
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in health insurance (carrier or TPA preferred)
7+ years of experience in data analytics/reporting, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Information Systems)
Strong knowledge of medical claims (professional and facility)
Advanced Excel and proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools
Active Life & Health Insurance license (or ability to obtain)
Understanding of compliance requirements (HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, ACA)
Experience in employee benefits, healthcare analytics, or financial analysis preferred
Technical Skills
Data cleaning, transformation, and validation
Statistical analysis (e.g., regression, correlation, hypothesis testing)
Database management and querying
Data visualization and dashboard development
Experience with reporting and analytics tools
Familiarity with automation and basic machine learning concepts (preferred)
