About the role:
As a Business Development Manager – Commercial Broker, you will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with large commercial broking firms. The role focuses on supporting brokers across application management, deal structuring, and credit qualification, with the objective of growing share of wallet across Shift’s cashflow and asset finance products. You will act as a trusted partner to brokers, providing commercial insight, credit support, and tailored solutions aligned to Shift’s risk appetite.
What you’ll do:
Build, develop, and maintain strong, long-term relationships with designated commercial broking firms.
Act as the primary point of contact for brokers, ensuring a high standard of service and ongoing engagement.
Proactively engage with brokers to understand their portfolios, pipeline, and growth opportunities.
Identify and drive new business opportunities within your broker network.
Support brokers with application guidance, deal structuring, and transaction progression.
Assess client needs and recommend appropriate cashflow and asset finance solutions.
Review transaction scenarios to ensure alignment with Shift’s credit appetite.
Prepare credit memorandums for complex transactions and lodge credit assessments for transactions above $1m.
Conduct financial analysis and risk assessments to support credit decisioning.
Work with marketing and internal stakeholders to target priority sectors and opportunities.
Attend industry events and networking activities as required.
Achieve individual targets and contribute to overall business performance.
Maintain accurate records and reporting through CRM systems, including pipeline, activity, and performance reporting.
Stay informed on market trends, competitor activity, and developments impacting commercial brokers.
What you’ll bring:
3+ years’ experience in business development or sales, ideally within commercial finance or banking.
Strong understanding of credit assessment and lending principles.
Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret financial statements.
Proven experience building and maintaining long-term broker relationships.
Strong credit capability, including experience with complex transactions.
Previous experience within a major bank or financial institution (desirable).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Effective stakeholder management and relationship-building capability.
Sound commercial judgment and sales acumen.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
