How This Role Supports the Business
As an Asset Surveyor at SFG20, you will play a critical role in delivering accurate, high‑quality asset intelligence that underpins our professional services, technical credibility, and customer value.
By surveying, capturing, and analysing building services and fabric assets, you’ll ensure our clients receive reliable asset registers, robust lifecycle data, and correctly aligned SFG20 maintenance schedules. Your work will directly support statutory compliance, planned maintenance strategies, and long‑term asset management.
The quality and accuracy of your surveys and reports will have a direct impact on customer satisfaction, commercial success, and SFG20’s reputation within the built‑environment sector.
You’ll be comfortable travelling regionally and nationally (including regular overnight stays) and will hold a full UK driving licence. Your integrity, technical expertise, and commitment to producing high‑quality, value‑adding audit reports will enable you to thrive in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Asset Surveying & Data Capture
As an Asset Surveyor, you will:
Carry out comprehensive site surveys across a wide range of building types, including healthcare, education, commercial, manufacturing, and blue‑light environments.
Accurately record mechanical, electrical, and fabric assets, capturing:
Location and description
Make, model, and serial numbers
Condition rating, age, lifecycle, and residual life
The appropriate SFG20 maintenance schedule
Label, photograph, and document each asset to create a complete and auditable digital record.
Identify visible hazards (such as asbestos, fire safety, or water hygiene risks) and escalate findings appropriately.
Data, Analysis & Reporting
You will be responsible for:
Producing accurate and structured asset registers using survey findings and available O&M documentation.
Maintaining consistently high standards of data quality, taxonomy, structure, and clarity.
Developing condition and lifecycle reports, including clear technical observations and defect descriptions.
Ensuring all survey outputs meet client requirements, SFG20 standards, and industry best practice.
Compliance, Project Support & Collaboration
Align surveyed assets with statutory requirements and SFG20 maintenance schedules.
Contribute to the scopes of work and technical specifications for remedial or maintenance projects.
Support — and where appropriate, lead — project activities such as kick‑off meetings, progress reviews, and handovers.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across Professional Services, Sales, and client stakeholder teams.
Working Practices
Work independently on the majority of assignments, with occasional involvement in wider project teams.
Manage your time effectively to meet survey, reporting, and project deadlines.
Maintain strong technical knowledge and uphold safe working practices at all times.
Travel across the UK, including regular overnight stays where required.
Required Skills & Experience
Education & Professional Standing
You will have:
A minimum of an HNC/HND in Building Services, Building Surveying, Construction, or a related discipline.
Membership of, or working towards membership of, CIBSE, RICS, or CIOB (preferred).
Technical Experience
You will bring:
Proven experience in building services surveying or asset‑related project delivery.
A good understanding of building services systems, construction methods, and relevant building regulations.
Knowledge of health & safety legislation and hazard identification.
Familiarity with SFG20 standards (advantageous, but not essential).
Digital & Reporting Skills
You will be able to demonstrate:
Strong technical report‑writing skills with excellent attention to detail.
High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Experience working with structured asset data or asset management software.
Additional Information
All candidates must be able to demonstrate a pre-existing right to work and travel within the UK. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer sponsorship. Documentary evidence will be required.
