Role Overview
This senior-level role involves designing and developing backend services, data processing pipelines, and user interfaces for a robotics observability platform. The engineer will handle ingesting massive volumes of sensor data, providing low-latency playback, and building systems for analytics across multimodal data in a distributed, multi-cloud environment. They will work with a small, experienced team to drive initiatives end-to-end, impacting the acceleration of robotics and embodied AI development.
Perks & Benefits
The role is remote-friendly with Pacific Time hours, requiring candidates within 4 hours of U.S. time zones for collaboration. Benefits include a $300 monthly budget for remote workspace or commuter benefits, competitive equity, full medical/dental/vision coverage, 401(k) matching, 4 weeks vacation, and all-expenses-paid company off-sites twice a year. The culture emphasizes autonomy, ownership, and working with world-class engineers in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Full Job Description
Build the data infrastructure for robots operating in the real world.
Robotics is moving from research labs into production across factories, warehouses, vehicles, and field deployments. When robots fail, behave unexpectedly, or need to be improved, engineers rely on data to understand what actually happened.
At Foxglove, we build the observability, visualization, and data infrastructure that makes that possible. Our tools are used by robotics and autonomous systems teams to ingest, store, query, replay, and analyze massive volumes of multimodal sensor data from live systems and from production fleets.
About the role
Foxglove is a robotics observability and visualization platform. We manage and provide access to large amounts of data across both our hosted platform and customer sites.
We’re seeking a highly skilled product and data-oriented Product Engineer with professional experience delivering streaming and analytic workloads for robotics data. You’ll work with other engineers to design and develop our user interfaces, backend services and data processing pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
Ingesting massive volumes of sensor data through both batch and realtime offload
Providing low-latency random-access (in device, time, sensors) playback over massive volumes of live or recorded data
Building systems to provide timely analytics across multimodal data
Multi-cloud architecture (we deploy in customer cloud accounts across GCP/AWS/Azure)
Offloading data from remote devices in network constrained environments
Our technical stack includes:
Node.js (TypeScript)
PostgreSQL
Rust
Managed Kubernetes environments in GCP
Customer deployments in Azure and AWS
What we're looking for
8+ years professional experience in writing high-performance production software
Significant professional experience building REST APIs using Typescript, Rust or similar backend languages (Go, Python).
Strong experience with a SQL database, query plan optimization, and scaling data workloads
Experience designing and operating distributed systems
Familiarity with building user-facing interfaces in React
Passion for building technical tools with engineers as the primary users
Excellent written & verbal communication skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, small team environment
Considers the customer impact when making technical decisions
Bonus Points
Robotics or AV experience
Experience with Spark/Databricks (data sources, Spark SQL, query optimization, administration)
Infrastructure management (IaC/Terraform, k8s, cloud providers, security)
What We Offer
$300 monthly budget towards commuter benefits or building your personal workspace (remote only)
Competitive equity grant in a Series B company
Medical, Dental, Vision, and Term Life insurance coverage at 100% for employees and 75% for dependents
401(k) matching up to 4%
4 weeks vacation, plus holidays and winter break
