Hims & Hers is on a mission to empower people to live healthier lives. Our Core Experience team plays a critical role in achieving this by building the backend
systems that power patient acquisition, engagement, and care delivery: checkout, payments, prescriptions, identity and health data.
As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will be a key technical leader responsible for designing and implementing scalable, high-performance solutions across both front-end and back-end systems. You will own architectural design for group-critical systems and initiatives across multiple squads. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align systems and abstractions to long-term group strategy and scalability. Your role will also involve engaging in product discovery to identify user needs and ensure shared architectural patterns and reusable components improve delivery across teams.
You Will:
Influence the design and architecture of scalable and performant full-stack solutions that meet product requirements and enhance user experience.
Champions and integrates AI tooling into team workflows, CI pipelines, code review
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers on best practices, design patterns, and coding standards.
Introduces frameworks, tools, and libraries that raise the bar on developer efficiency
Participate in product discovery sessions to assess feasibility, explore user needs, define product features, and validate ideas with prototypes and experiments.
Drive group-wide architectural improvements, with a focus on eliminating redundancy, complexity, and lowering overall technical debt.
Work closely with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and communication across systems and services.
Contribute to the vision for the team and the platform as technical leader, identifying new and strategic technologies and technical investments that improve security, scalability, reliability, and performance.
Break down complex projects into clear, actionable tasks to drive successful outcomes.
Drives simplification of complex systems through shared tooling and design
Implement observability practices across the platform, including logging, monitoring, and alerting to ensure system reliability and performance.
Analyze performance metrics and user feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and drive optimization efforts.
Create and maintain technical documentation for architecture and development processes.
Serve on our technical advisory group to help guide and provide feedback on critical technical decisions.
Conduct code reviews and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives within the team.
Identify performance bottlenecks and propose enhancements to optimize system performance and reliability.
Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and best practices, and propose innovative solutions to improve the platform.
You Have:
8+ years as a software engineer, shipping production code and working with diverse teams on aggressive timelines
Experience designing API gateways, BFF patterns, or service mesh architectures serving mobile and web clients
Fluent with agentic coding practices and tools, including Claude, Codex etc.
Proven experience in building scalable cloud applications and services using technologies including Kotlin, NestJS, AWS, PostgreSQL, Auth0, Datadog, GraphQL, Redis
Experience building services to enable mobile developers to deliver best-in-class user experiences
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
Capable of prioritizing multiple projects in order to meet goals without management oversight.
