Perplexity is seeking a Staff Quality Engineer to own and shape the quality engineering strategy for our products as we revolutionize the way people search and interact with the internet. In this role, you will be the technical leader responsible for designing scalable test architectures, driving automation initiatives, and embedding quality into every stage of the development lifecycle.
You will partner closely with product management, engineering, and support teams—not just to find bugs, but to architect systems and processes that prevent them. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership instincts, a bias for ownership, and the vision to build quality infrastructure that scales with our ambitions.
Responsibilities
Own test architecture, automation frameworks, and CI/CD quality gates across platforms.
Drive a test-driven engineering culture through technical leadership and mentorship.
Partner with engineering and product to identify risks early and define quality requirements from design through release.
Establish quality metrics and KPIs to measure product health and guide improvement.
Evaluate and integrate new tools and technologies to advance testing capabilities.
Qualifications
7+ years in software quality, with a focus on test architecture and automation.
Proven leadership in building QA strategy and guiding teams in fast-paced environments.
Strong understanding of CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems testing.
Hands-on experience with automation tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Playwright).
Excellent communication skills with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset.
Experience with AI-powered or data-intensive products is a plus.
