About the role...

Come and be a product lead within our Notifications Team, one of Duolingo’s highest-impact Growth teams. Notifications are already among the most important drivers of top-line impact at the company, and we’re investing further in this area as a major lever for driving retention and engagement.

You’ll own product strategy and execution across a broad set of opportunities to make our notifications more effective, more engaging, and more valuable to learners. You’ll help identify new notification types, improve opt-in and reach, and explore how channels like email and other alternatives can play a stronger role in bringing learners back.

This is a highly cross-functional role spanning product, engineering, data science, ML/AI, design, and product writing. You’ll work closely with partners across disciplines to develop new ideas, run fast experiments, and turn what we learn into product strategy that helps more learners build lasting habits.

🧠  You will...

  • Own product strategy and execution for a major notifications surface, from identifying opportunities to shipping and iterating on solutions
  • Drive the team’s roadmap across high-impact workstreams including new notification types, opt-in and reach, email, and alternative channels
  • Lead product features through their full lifecycle: ideation, prioritization, specification, development, launch, analysis, and iteration
  • Work closely with engineers, data scientists, ML/AI partners, product writers, and designers to create more effective and engaging notifications experiences
  • Use experimentation and product intuition to uncover new opportunities, validate ideas quickly, and translate learnings into product strategy
  • Improve core team metrics such as conversion, click-through rate, and opt-in, while balancing user reach and experience guardrails
  • Explore how new formats, channels, and UX patterns can make notifications more personalized, engaging, and effective for different learners
  • Partner closely with leadership to help shape the direction of one of Duolingo’s top teams for driving top-line impact

✅ You have...

  • Experience generating outstanding results as a Product Manager on a consumer mobile product
  • Significant experience working on notifications or adjacent lifecycle surfaces, with a strong understanding of what makes outreach timely, effective, and valuable to users
  • Experience owning product strategy and execution for notifications, including identifying new opportunities, prioritizing work, and driving launches from concept through iteration
  • Experience improving notification performance across areas such as new notification types, opt-in, reach, targeting, or channel strategy
  • Strong judgment for how to make notifications more engaging and effective while balancing user experience and long-term reachability
  • Experience working on personalized or ML-driven messaging systems, including targeting, ranking, experimentation, or template generation
  • Strong product instincts and analytical judgment, with the ability to use experiments and data to make meaningful decisions
  • Experience building and executing on roadmaps that improve existing notification systems while also creating new surfaces and capabilities
  • Ability to independently drive alignment and make progress in ambiguous spaces without waiting to be told what to do
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineers, data scientists, designers, writers, and ML/AI partners
  • Excitement about moving quickly, learning from fast experimentation, and shaping product strategy
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Design, Psychology, or equivalent

⭐  Exceptional candidates will have...

  • Advanced degree in Business, Computer Science, Design, Psychology, or equivalent
  • Experience working on consumer products with high-frequency engagement loops (e.g., health, wellness, fitness, mobile games)
  • Experience working on notification-related channels beyond push, such as email, Live Activities, or other alternative channels, and a point of view on the role each can play in driving engagement
