Position
Kueski is seeking a Senior Manager of Data Engineering to lead the design, development, and operation of scalable, secure, and high-performance data systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering leader with deep expertise in distributed systems, modern data architectures, and cloud-based platforms; someone who can guide architectural decisions, solve complex engineering challenges, and enable data-driven impact at scale.
As a key leader in the data organization, you will drive the technical direction of your team, ensuring the delivery of robust, production-grade infrastructure that powers mission-critical systems such as credit decisioning, fraud detection, and real-time analytics. You will also play a critical role in people leadership: managing senior contributors, coaching career growth, and fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Infrastructure
Own the architecture, performance, and reliability of large-scale batch and real-time data processing systems.
Translate complex business requirements into effective, scalable data solutions through close collaboration with cross-functional partners.
Scale operational processes, tools, and systems to support team growth and evolving business needs.
Engineering Excellence & Operations
Drive technical excellence by guiding architecture decisions, promoting best practices, and contributing to system design and code reviews.
Identify and resolve inefficiencies in engineering workflows, technical processes, and system performance.
Establish processes, tools, and governance frameworks to ensure data quality, security, and reliability.
Analytics Enablement & Insights
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, software engineering, infrastructure, and data science teams to deliver business value through high-quality data systems.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Build and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a high-performance, customer-centric culture.
Implement best practices for agile development, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
Foster a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative team culture aligned with Kueski’s values.
Job Requirements
15+ years of experience in data engineering or backend engineering roles, with at least 3+ years in a technical leadership or people management capacity.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Deep expertise in distributed systems, data architectures, and real-time/batch processing.
Deep experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and big data tools like Spark, Kafka, Airflow, EMR, S3, and Redshift.
Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, Java, or Scala).
Solid understanding of data modeling, data quality, and secure data practices.
Proven track record of driving large-scale technical projects from design through execution.
Experience mentoring other engineers and fostering technical excellence within a team.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present ideas and technical concepts to a wide range of audiences.
Fluent in English and Spanish (spoken and written); able to represent the team in technical forums and leadership discussions.
