Senior Electrical Engineer
Role Overview
As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Voyant Photonics, you will lead board-level development by designing mixed-signal PCBs integrating components like ADCs, microcontrollers, and FPGAs, and drive system integration with cross-functional teams. You'll handle hands-on bring-up and validation using lab tools, manage product constraints such as size and power, and support production to ensure designs are scalable. This senior role involves full lifecycle ownership in a fast-paced, collaborative environment focused on next-generation LiDAR systems.
Perks & Benefits
This remote role offers a competitive base salary with equity, comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental, and vision, and unlimited PTO with paid holidays. While the job is remote, there may be occasional team events or meetups, and time zone expectations are likely flexible given the collaborative nature with cross-functional teams. The culture emphasizes mission-driven work in a diverse and inclusive environment, with opportunities for career growth through foundational technology development.
Full Job Description
About Us:
Voyant Photonics, is transforming machine perception with a new class of LiDAR devices that are compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand and powerful enough to measure range, velocity, and reflectivity with unparalleled accuracy. By leveraging cutting-edge silicon photonic chips smaller than your fingertip, we deliver sensors that are not only revolutionary in performance but also affordable enough to integrate into any system.
Our technology disrupts the status quo of bulky, expensive, and power-hungry LiDAR systems, making high-precision sensing accessible for widespread adoption in robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, industrial automation, and beyond. With Voyant, the next generation of machines can see, understand, and navigate the world like never before.
Discover how we’re redefining what’s possible by making real products out of cutting-edge research in silicon photonics.
The Opportunity
As a growing company, we’re looking for engineers who want to move fast, solve hard problems, and leave their mark on a foundational technology. You’ll join a mission-driven team at the intersection of product design, silicon photonics and machine perception.
We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who thrives in fast-paced, high-collaboration environments and brings deep experience in PCB design, system bring-up, and cross-functional integration. You’ll be responsible for designing and validating printed circuit boards that bring together high-speed digital, low-noise analog, power delivery, and custom photonic interfaces serving as the backbone of our next-generation LiDAR systems.
What You’ll Do
Lead board-level development: Design mixed-signal, multi-layer PCBs that integrate ADCs, microcontrollers, FPGAs, power regulators, and custom analog interfaces. Own schematics, layout collaboration, BOM creation, and bring-up.
Drive system integration: Work closely with photonics, mechanical, and embedded software teams to ensure tight alignment across hardware interfaces, physical constraints, and thermal/power management.
Hands-on bring-up and validation: Perform functional testing, debug board-level issues, and characterize performance using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, and signal generators.
Manage product constraints: Balance trade-offs around size, power, thermal, EMI, and manufacturability in complex, space-constrained designs.
Support production: Collaborate with manufacturing and test engineering to ensure designs are robust, testable, and ready for scaling.
What You Bring
Experience:
5+ years of experience in board-level hardware development, including design, bring-up, and validation of production-grade systems.
Proven ownership of full product lifecycle from concept through production in compact, multi-disciplinary systems (e.g., sensing, robotics, autonomy).
Technical Skills:
Strong proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer).
Working knowledge of layout principles for high-speed digital (LVDS, SPI, I²C, DDR, SerDes) and noise-sensitive analog signals.
Deep understanding of power distribution networks, switching regulators, and LDOs.
Comfort with lab-based debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and similar tools.
Familiarity with DFM, component derating, and production test workflows.
Preferred Extras:
Experience with rigid-flex or high-density interconnect boards.
Exposure to optoelectronic or photonic system integration.
Experience working with contract manufacturers or supporting pilot builds.
Familiarity with board-level FPGA integration and embedded systems.
Benefits Package:
Competitive base salary and a meaningful equity package.
Comprehensive health benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision).
Unlimited PTO and paid company holidays.
Team events and company meetups.
Complimentary lunch provided daily at the office
