Our Client

Leading the development of a next-generation digital banking platform for a confidential client headquartered in Abu Dhabi. The platform serves as a foundational banking backbone, enabling secure, scalable, and modular financial operations, including real-world transactions, digital asset custody, and future blockchain interoperability.

This is a greenfield system built with no legacy constraints, but with strict expectations around financial correctness, architectural rigor, and long-term platform evolution. The system will integrate with external banking services, payment rails, and KYC providers and must be designed to operate reliably under real financial and regulatory pressure.

Job Summary

We are seeking Principal Back-End Engineers to define and build the core backend platform of a digital bank. This is not a feature-delivery role.

You will be responsible for foundational architectural decisions that shape how the entire system operates, scales, and evolves over time. You will act as a technical authority, working closely with the CTO and peer Principal Engineers to establish platform-wide standards, guarantees, and system boundaries.

Success in this role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, transaction-heavy architectures, and Golang, as well as the ability to think several years ahead in system design.

Responsibilities

• Platform & Architecture Leadership

  • Define the end-to-end backend platform architecture, including core services, workflows, and system boundaries.

  • Establish architectural principles for transaction management, state consistency, durability, and fault tolerance.

  • Make and defend early, high-impact architectural decisions that constrain and enable future development.

  • Align architecture across modules to ensure long-term coherence, scalability, and regulatory readiness.

• System Design & Implementation

  • Design and implement production-grade backend systems in Golang that handle real financial transactions.

  • Architect systems with explicit workflow and state models for entities such as payments, transactions, and account operations.

  • Define and evolve service contracts, APIs, and integration patterns across the platform.

  • Build systems that integrate cleanly with enterprise-grade external providers (payments, KYC, banking rails).

• Distributed Systems & Reliability

  • Design for failure-first scenarios, including retries, idempotency, compensation, and recovery.

  • Ensure correctness under concurrency, partial failure, and distributed execution.

  • Define consistency guarantees and trade-offs appropriate for financial systems.

  • Anticipate operational and scaling challenges before they surface in production.

• Technical Authority & Collaboration

  • Act as a technical reference point for backend and platform decisions.

  • Review designs and implementations from other engineers to ensure alignment with platform standards.

  • Collaborate with Product, Security, and Infrastructure stakeholders while maintaining architectural integrity.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications and Job Requirements

• Expert-level Golang experience in production systems.

• Proven experience designing distributed systems, not just implementing them.

• Demonstrated ownership of platform-level architecture or foundational backend systems.

• Strong background in transactional systems, including workflow, state, and consistency management.

• Ability to independently design, implement, and evolve mission-critical backend platforms.

• Experience operating in multi-service, multi-integration enterprise environments.

• Strong design-first mindset: architecture precedes implementation.
