Full Job Description
Hi, I’m Anum, Head of Content & Community Content at Ashby. Over the last few years, I’ve built a content team that doesn’t operate like a traditional content function. We don’t exist to fulfill requests or chase volume — we own distinct, high-impact pillars like our Talent Trends Reports, Offer Accepted podcast, and Ashby One conference content. Each of these has a clear point of view, a strong operator behind it, and a growing presence in the market.
Today, every piece of content is created with care, but what happens after publishing is inconsistent. Our best work doesn’t always get resurfaced at the right moments. Our website structure isn’t evolving as intentionally as it should. Our YouTube and other distribution surfaces are underutilized. And the ongoing work of refreshing, optimizing, and compounding our content library often gets deprioritized in favor of shipping the next thing.
At every company I’ve led teams at, there’s always pressure to improve distribution and reach without the resources to actually do it well. And when you’re operating at the velocity and quality bar we hold ourselves to, the fatigue that hits the moment something goes live is real. So much creative energy goes into delivering the launch that the final 10% — optimizing the content, enabling it internally, and thoughtfully repurposing it over time — consistently gets deprioritized as you move on to the next piece.
This role exists to change that. We’re looking for someone to own our content library as a product. You’ll be responsible for how our content is structured, discovered, maintained, and continuously improved over time. You’ll partner closely with our existing Content Leads, but instead of owning a single pillar, you’ll ensure that everything we create compounds in value. Think of yourself as a PM or PMM for Content.
This is not a traditional content marketing role. It sits at the intersection of content, systems thinking, SEO/AEO, and product-like ownership of our website and knowledge surfaces. However, knowledge of content marketing excellence is valuable.
What you’ll be responsible for in this role
Own Ashby’s content library as a system
You’ll define how our content ecosystem is structured and evolves across our blog, reports, Academy, YouTube, and future surfaces. This includes URL structure, internal linking, content hierarchy, and how different pieces of content connect into a cohesive experience.
Lead our approach to content optimization, AEO, and technical SEO
You’ll partner with product and marketing leadership to ensure our content is positioned for where discovery is going. This includes shaping our AEO strategy, improving technical SEO fundamentals, and ensuring our content is structured to perform across search and AI-driven discovery. To be clear, we do not have a traditional blog marketing engine where we’re writing content “for SEO,” which means you’re up for the challenge of building for our unique content team (session talks, podcast episodes, data reports) vs proposing we write listicles to meet your goals.
Build and run a continuous content refresh engine
Our best content should get better over time. You’ll own regular audits, identify what needs to be updated or consolidated, and drive execution across the team. This includes evolving existing high-performing assets, retiring outdated work, and maintaining a high-quality, trustworthy library.
Create an evergreen GTM engine for our content
Each Content Lead owns the launch of their work; you’ll own what happens after. You’ll build systems to resurface and redistribute content based on relevance, timing, and market moments. This includes identifying opportunities to bring older content back into circulation in meaningful ways.
Own and evolve underutilized distribution surfaces (e.g., YouTube)
We have strong raw material that isn’t being fully leveraged. You’ll take ownership of channels like YouTube and define how they should operate from publishing strategy to optimization to how they connect back to our broader content ecosystem.
Partner on Ashby Academy and knowledge-based experiences
You’ll play a key role in ensuring our Academy and future learning surfaces are structured, maintained, and scalable. This includes thinking through how educational content fits into our broader content library and how it evolves over time. Ashby Academy lives as its own website, which means we need a seamless connection and reader journey across the two.
Develop new, scalable content systems (e.g., expert database, programmatic content)
You’ll help us build new types of content that are inherently compounding such as a home for all the experts who contribute content, structured knowledge bases, or other formats that combine community, SEO/AEO, and product thinking.
You will probably love this role if
You’re energized by messy, high-potential surfaces that need structure, ownership, and a strong project manager
You have strong instincts for AEO and want to solve for the modern LLM-powered searches in a unique way that doesn’t force content teams into building rudimentary listicles. Instead, you want to partner on innovative solutions to modern challenges.
You enjoy both diagnosing problems and building the solution from the ground up.
You’ve worked on or deeply understand large content libraries and how they evolve over time.
You’re as interested in distribution and optimization as you are in creation. You’ve gotten your feet wet in understanding content but now want to specialize into being a product manager of content vs a creator of content.
You can zoom out to define strategy and zoom in to fix details (URL structure, metadata, publishing workflows, etc.)
You’re comfortable influencing without owning every input, which means partnering with strong ICs who own their pillars across Content, Data, Design, Product, and Marketing leadership.
You want to build interesting solutions for how different formats are shared vs a one-size-fits-all model. Live benchmarks for data appearing differently than how we distribute all the session recordings after a Conference.
You like the idea of owning something horizontal that makes everyone else better.
This role is not for you if
You want to primarily write or produce net-new content; this role is about systems, optimization, and leverage.
You prefer clearly defined playbooks. Much of this role will be figuring out what “great” looks like from first principles.
You’re uncomfortable with ambiguity or building from 0 → 1 in a new function.
You think of SEO as a checklist rather than a strategic advantage.
You’re not interested in the technical side of content (site structure, metadata, performance, etc.)
You’d rather own a single pillar than influence many.
You get overwhelmed by the tedious details of optimizing (YouTube descriptions, talk transcripts and tagging, etc).
Interview Plan
At Ashby, our team and interview process want to help you show your best self. We’ll dive into past projects and simulate working together via project working sessions. Our interview process is:
30-minute intro call (Recruiter Screen)
45-minute interview with Anum Hussain (Hiring Manager)
30-minute interview with Chris Frakes (Content Lead)
A take-home assignment reviewed by the hiring team
Final Round (60-minutes)
30-minute interview with Tony Ramirez (Principal PMM)
30-minute interview with Benji Encz (CEO)
Benefits
Competitive salary and equity.
Opportunity to work with a talented and passionate team.
10-year exercise window for stock options. You shouldn’t feel pressure to purchase stock options if you leave Ashby —do it when you feel financially comfortable.
Unlimited PTO with four weeks recommended per year. Expect “Vacation?” in our one-on-one agenda until you start taking it 😅.
Twelve weeks of fully paid family leave in the US. We plan to expand this to employees in other countries as situations arise.
Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget. Get what you need to be happy and productive!
$100/month education budget with more expensive items (like conferences) covered with manager approval.
If you’re in the US, top-notch health insurance for you and your dependents with all premiums covered by us.
Ashby’s success hinges on hiring great people and creating an environment where we can be happy, feel challenged, and do our best work. We’re being deliberate about building that environment from the ground up. I hope that excites you enough to apply.
Ashby provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
