Full Job Description

Build the data infrastructure for robots operating in the real world.

Robotics is moving from research labs into production across factories, warehouses, vehicles, and field deployments. When robots fail, behave unexpectedly, or need to be improved, engineers rely on data to understand what actually happened.

At Foxglove, we build the observability, visualization, and data infrastructure that makes that possible. Our tools are used by robotics and autonomous systems teams to ingest, store, query, replay, and analyze massive volumes of multimodal sensor data from live systems and from production fleets.

Design Engineers at Foxglove work at the intersection of design and engineering, transforming complex data and workflows into clear, efficient user experiences. In this role, you’ll partner with cross-functional teams to prototype and build features that improve both the usability and overall capability of our platform. You’ll also help evolve and scale Foxglove’s design system and component library, enabling engineers to rapidly develop new features that are performant, accessible, and high-quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute directly to front-end code and partner with Product Managers and Product Designers to launch new tooling features.

  • Deliver advanced data visualization and interaction solutions that support the workflows of ML and autonomy engineers.

  • Ship accessible UI components using modern front-end technologies.

  • Work closely with customers to gather feedback and drive impactful, user-centered design improvements.

What We're Looking For

  • At least 5 years of experience in tech or startup environments.

  • Proficiency in Figma.

  • Exceptional visual design skills and a strong understanding of UX/UI principles, with a background in visual or interaction design.

  • Excellent front-end development skills—including semantic HTML, modern CSS, JavaScript, and contemporary frameworks (e.g., React, TypeScript)—with strong prototyping and implementation abilities.

  • Experience maintaining reusable component libraries and refining design details at the code level.

  • Strong organizational skills and a passion for clear, thorough documentation.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, especially when working across design and engineering teams.

Bonus Points

  • Deep familiarity with React.

  • Experience designing tools for engineers working in robotics or autonomous vehicles.

  • Experience building complex interactive systems or data analytics products.

  • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, etc.

What We Offer

  • $300 monthly budget towards commuter benefits or building your personal workspace (remote only)

  • Competitive equity grant in a Series B company

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Term Life insurance coverage at 100% for employees and 75% for dependents

  • 401(k) matching up to 4%

  • 4 weeks vacation, plus holidays and winter break

  • All expenses paid company off-sites 1-2× per year

  • Bring experience across the full design and development lifecycle, including UX research, UI design, prototyping, and implementation.

  • Own and maintain Foxglove’s component library, scaling it to support the rapid growth of our product offerings.

Why Join Us

  • Impact: Own growth at a fast-growing, high-leverage moment for the company.

  • Mission: Accelerate the development of the next generation of robotics and embodied AI.

  • Team: Work with world-class engineers, designers, and researchers passionate about open-source and developer tools.

  • Ownership: Drive initiatives end-to-end, with high autonomy and visibility.
