The Role

Matia is looking for a highly technical Data Advocate to lead developer relations and community efforts. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, product, and go to market. You will be the technical voice of Matia in the data community and the community’s voice inside Matia.

This is a hands-on, technical position for someone who has built data systems, understands modern data stacks deeply, and wants to teach, influence, and shape how data teams work.

You will own developer programs, technical education, and community engagement to increase customer velocity, product adoption, and long term trust in Matia.


What You'll Do

Developer Relations and Advocacy

  • Act as a public technical advocate for Matia across blogs, webinars, talks, podcasts, and community forums

  • Create deep technical content including tutorials, architecture guides, demos, and reference implementations

  • Lead developer programming that supports adoption, onboarding, and long term customer success

Community Engagement and Education

  • Build and grow a technical community of data engineers, analytics engineers, and data leaders

  • Submit technical papers and presentations at data conferences

  • Educate practitioners and emerging data professionals on data pipelines, governance, observability, and cataloging

  • Maintain relationships with technical counterparts throughout the data ecosystem, in conjunction with partnership team

  • Host technical workshops, office hours, webinars, and community events

  • Engage directly with users to answer technical questions and surface patterns and feedback

Product and Engineering Partnership

  • Serve as data expert in residence, providing real world feedback to product and engineering teams

  • Influence roadmap decisions by bringing community insights, customer pain points, and technical trends

  • Support the creation and improvement of technical documentation and release materials

Go To Market Support

  • Partner with marketing, sales, and customer success on launches, demos, and technical narratives

  • Support technical launches with written and video content

  • Help articulate Matia’s differentiation clearly and credibly to technical buyers

What We’re Looking For

  • 3 or more years in a technical data role such as data engineer, analytics engineer, or developer advocate

  • 1 year as a developer/data advocate/ technical product marketing (or significant contributions to data community via open source projects, technical talks)

  • Advanced command of SQL and strong working knowledge of Python

  • Startup experience

  • Deep understanding of modern data stacks including warehouses , ETL or ELT, reverse ETL, observability, and governance

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly

  • Experience working with data communities (either informally or in previous role), including Snowflake, dbt, etc

  • Superior customer facing and public facing communication skills

Nice to haves

  • Experience building developer or community programs from zero to one

  • Prior experience as a data engineer in production environments

  • An existing technical platform or audience such as a blog, GitHub, talks, or social presence

  • Contributions to open source data projects such as dbt, Airflow, or similar
