Role SummaryThe Costing Engineer – Jigs & Fixtures is responsible for the end-to-end financial estimation of specialized tooling required for electronic assembly lines. This role involves analyzing technical drawings, calculating manufacturing costs for custom parts, and budgeting for complex automation components. The goal is to provide accurate "Should-Cost" models that ensure high-quality assembly solutions are delivered within budget.Core Responsibilities Component & Material Estimation Fabricated Parts: Calculate costs for metallic (Al, SS) and non-metallic (ESD plastics, Delrin) parts by evaluating material weight, machining cycles (CNC/VMC), and finishing processes. Bought-Out Items: Source and maintain price benchmarks for: Mechanical: Bearings, linear rails, and precision slide ways. Pneumatics: Cylinders, DCV valves, and manifold systems. Automation: PLCs, sensors (proximity/optical), magnets, and HMI units. Electrical: Push buttons, switches, wiring harnesses, and connectors. Assembly & Validation Costing Estimate man-hours for mechanical assembly, pneumatic plumbing, and electrical wiring. Factor in costs for fixture testing, calibration, and $Cpk/Ppk$ validation runs. Strategic Financial Analysis Conduct Make vs. Buy analyses for custom fixture components. Perform Value Engineering (VA/VE) to suggest lower-cost alternatives for non-critical parts without sacrificing precision or safety. Maintain a live database of vendor quotes and historical cost data. Technical Requirements Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Production Engineering. Experience: 3–5 years in costing, specifically within high-precision tooling or electronics assembly. Software Proficiency: * Advanced MS Excel (Macro/Pivot tables) and ERP systems (SAP/Oracle). Ability to view and measure parts using CAD software (SolidWorks/AutoCAD). Process Knowledge: Deep understanding of milling, turning, grinding, and surface treatments.
