Full Job Description

Replit is the agentic software creation platform that enables anyone to build applications using natural language. With millions of users worldwide and over 500,000 business users, Replit is democratizing software development by removing traditional barriers to application creation.

We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our growing technology company. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in both public company environments and startup settings, bringing the financial rigor of public company reporting with the agility and adaptability required in fast-paced tech environments.

In this role you will:

  • Financial Reporting & Compliance

    • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

    • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP

    • Manage SEC reporting requirements including 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K filings

    • Coordinate with external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits

    • Ensure compliance with SOX requirements and maintain robust internal controls

  • Strategic Financial Management

    • Partner with executive team on financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes

    • Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making

    • Lead revenue recognition assessments for complex software licensing and SaaS arrangements

    • Oversee cash flow management and working capital optimization

    • Ad hoc reporting

    • IPO readiness

  • Team Leadership & Operations

    • Manage and develop accounting team members, fostering professional growth

    • Implement and optimize financial systems and processes for scalability

    • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures

    • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions

    • Lead cross-functional projects involving finance, legal, and operations teams

Required skills and experience:

  • Experience & Background

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required

    • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience

    • Minimum 3 years in a Controller

    • Public company experience with SEC reporting and SOX compliance

    • Startup or high-growth company experience in technology sector

    • Big Four public accounting experience

  • Core Competencies

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

    • Excellent communication skills with ability to present to executive team and board

    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills

    • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, changing environments - seek pain

    • Leadership experience with team management and development

Tools + Tech Stack for this role:

  • Expert knowledge of GAAP, particularly revenue recognition standards (ASC 606)

  • SOX 404

  • Proficiency with ERP systems

  • Implementing AI for efficiency

  • Advanced Excel skills and financial modeling capabilities

  • Experience with financial planning software

  • Knowledge of equity accounting and stock-based compensation

Nice to have:

  • MBA or advanced degree in related field

  • Experience with international operations and multi-currency transactions

  • Knowledge of transfer pricing and tax planning strategies

  • Familiarity with venture capital and private equity environments

  • Experience with M&A transactions and due diligence processes

This is a full-time role that can be held from our Foster City, CA office. The role has an in-office requirement of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
