Full Job Description
Datadog's Finance team collaborates with teams across the organization, providing commercial, operational and analytical support to ensure that Datadog's business continues to scale rapidly and efficiently.
The R&D Finance team enables the financial strategy behind Datadog’s Engineering and Product organizations. We partner directly with technical leadership to drive decision-making around our most critical investments. Your work will be highly cross-functional and play a pivotal role in connecting the dots across the organization through a financial lens, ensuring operational alignment and informing decision making.
As we scale our infrastructure and accelerate our AI roadmap, we are hiring someone to optimize our cloud spend. This role sits at the intersection of Finance, Data Science, and Engineering. You will move beyond traditional reporting to build the predictive models and automated insights that allow us to scale efficiently.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What You’ll Do:
-
Own the end-to-end modeling for our largest hosting expense drivers (AWS, Azure, GCP, GPUs), leveraging cloud cost management tools to translate granular usage data into accurate financial forecasts.
-
Partner with Engineering and Finance leadership to drive variance analysis, strategic capacity planning, and cost optimization initiatives.
-
Lead the shift from manual workflows to automated insights. You will build real-time dashboards that give Finance & Engineering leaders visibility into their spend without waiting for month-end.
-
Partner with Engineering to define and track unit economics and efficiency metrics; identifying specific opportunities to improve gross margin and driving them to execution.
-
Oversee the financial performance of our AI tooling and strategic vendor partnerships, ensuring our investment scales in line with usage and revenue.
-
Translate complex technical roadmaps into clear financial narratives for the CFO and Executive leadership, ensuring capital allocation aligns with our long-term product strategy.
-
Become proficient with various financial planning and business intelligence (BI) tools, including but not limited to Pigment, Tableau, and Metabase.
-
Work on ad-hoc projects and strategic initiatives for senior management, which may include assessing analyzing various business challenges/opportunities and proposing solutions
Who You Are:
-
~5 years in Strategic Finance, Cloud Ops, FinOps, or Data Analytics. You have a track record of solving complex problems, not just reporting on them.
-
You are comfortable working with large datasets. Proficiency in SQL is highly preferred; you know how to query data to find answers yourself.
-
You understand the mechanics of cloud infrastructure (Compute, Storage, GPUs) and the nuances of consumption-based pricing models.
-
You are dissatisfied with the status quo. You have examples of tools, models, or dashboards you built from scratch to solve a manual pain point.
-
You can fluently switch between "Engineering speak" (utilization, retention, instances) and "Finance speak" (margins, opex, cash flow).
-
You are a clear, concise communicator and team player with a humble mindset and ‘can-do’ attitude
-
Bonus points if you are a FinOps Certified Practitioner
-
