Role Description
Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research organization to engage professionals with advanced expertise in legal and compliance domains. This
full-time position
invites experienced legal and compliance specialists to help train and refine AI systems by providing high-quality annotations and insights across diverse regulatory and legal contexts. Professionals in this role will apply their knowledge of contract law, compliance frameworks, legal research, and dispute resolution to ensure AI models reason accurately about real-world legal challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Use proprietary tools to annotate and evaluate data related to legal and compliance topics
Provide detailed input on scenarios involving contract analysis, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution
Collaborate with research and technical teams to develop, test, and improve data annotation workflows
Analyze complex legal materials and ensure accuracy and integrity in AI model understanding
Interpret evolving task instructions and maintain consistency, precision, and sound professional judgment
Qualifications
Professional experience in legal, compliance, or related fields (e.g., compliance officer, lawyer, paralegal, arbitrator, mediator, judicial law clerk, or legal researcher)
Proficiency in reading and writing both informal and professional English
Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and apply critical reasoning to complex material
Demonstrated interest in technology, innovation, and AI-driven solutions for legal and compliance systems
Preferred Background
JD, bar admission, or recognized certification such as Certified Compliance Professional (CCP) or equivalent
Experience mentoring or training others in legal or compliance practices
Familiarity with AI workflows, data annotation, or technology-focused legal environments
Comfortable recording short audio or video sessions for data collection
Work Environment
This role can be based in Palo Alto, CA (in-office, 5 days per week) or performed fully remote for candidates with strong self-discipline and time management skills.
U.S.-based applicants must reside outside of Wyoming and Illinois
Typical hours: 9:00am 5:30pm PST during training, then your local time zone
Remote workers must use a personal computer that meets one of the following requirements: a Chromebook, a Mac running macOS 11 or newer, or a Windows PC running Windows 10 or newer
Reliable smartphone access required
Compensation
Competitive pay ranging from $90,000 to $200,000 annually for U.S.-based professionals, depending on experience and location.
